What does it mean to be a top ten female model?
Kate Moss, Gisele Bundschen, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Carolyn Murphy, Natalia Vodianova… top models who have become super-women, icons of a generation whose faces and figures will go down in history as landmarks of beauty.
Remember the classic phrase "the face that launched a thousand ships"? It still stands today as top female models set sail to legendary heights with major brands such as Prada, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder and Lancôme. The campaigns and contracts each top model tucks under her slender belt are the ticket to her ranking in the top ten at any given time.
Getting into the top 10 female model lists requires determination and sometimes a thick skin. Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova, the fastest climbing model on the top 10 lists was told by a major Russian agency that she didn't have what it takes to be a supermodel. Thankfully, shortly afterwards, Natalia was spotted by a Russian photographer working for the French agency Viva models and hopped on the next plane to Paris! Moral of the story? Don't give up till you get to the top.
Of course, Rome wasn't built in a day and it takes time to become a top ten female model: it's as much about what women wear on the inside as on the outside. Of course, a model has to look good and demonstrate how clothes or products look and work. The second meaning of top model though, is about inspiring and setting an example. Today's top female models show aspiring young women how to do or to be: it's about more than just being a pretty face.
Beyond the allure of the lifestyle being a top female model has to offer: fame, fortune, travel, and a life in the glittering heart of fashion, not to mention the adoration and admiration that goes along with the job (need we say more…), top women models often go on to star-spangled careers once their modeling days are over. Actresses, ambassadors, singers, teachers… being discovered as a top ten model can be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to a long life of glamour and fulfillment.
